Signe Persson-Melin

Designer and artist with many classics in clay and glass on her long list of achievements. She is considered by many to have a perfect feel for materials and an ability to retain a sense of craftsmanship in all her work. Signe has been a professor of glass and ceramic design since 1985.Signe’s career began with an internship at Lomma Ler och Keramik making flower pots, followed by training at both Konstfack in Stockholm and Kunsthandvaerkerskolen in Copenhagen. Her debut exhibition in 1953 at Galleri Moderne in Stockholm caused the Stockholm daily press to rejoice at the discovery of a new talent from Skåne.

In SvD, Gotthard Johansson wrote “It is almost as if one were greeted by the pure spirit that once reigned in the most cultivated shop for Nordic applied art. Signe Persson is a potter of the purest kind, she has a clear and conscious sense of form that saves her from all the temptations of ceramic folk art.”
