The first World’s Fair took place in London in 1851, introducing many new products to a wider audience for the first time. Among the innovations was the fern seat, which quickly took off and became a common feature in English parks and gardens. The model also spread to other countries and soon several Swedish foundries had the fern design in their product portfolio. Of these, only Byarums Bruk now remains. There is no doubt that the seat has all the hallmarks of a classic. One celebrity landscaper who really appreciated the fern seat was Count Lennart Bernadotte. Byarums Bruk supplied countless fern seats for the grounds of Mainau Castle in southern Germany, in the second half of the 20th century.
