Industrial designer and structural engineer with a flair for future classics.
Björn Alge was an industrial designer and structural engineer with a flair for future classics and a keen eye for the object’s relationship with the urban space. His collaboration with Byarums Bruk began in the 1980s and became a turning point for the foundry’s design language. In Björns Alge’s hands, the craftsmanship of the foundry and the properties of aluminium prompted what one might call a creative rebirth. The classic seats and urns were now joined by completely new forms, displaying a lighter touch that changed Byarums Bruk’s image of itself. Genuine industrial craftsmanship was joined by the designer’s vision of the end product, the user and the environments, and this wonderful meeting of creativity and tradition sparked a new chapter in the foundry’s history. The close collaboration with Björn Alge also paved the way for the foundry to work with other designers.
Björn Alge has work on display at the Röhsska Museum and Nationalmuseum, among others. During his career as an industrial designer, he received many awards, including the Excellent Swedish Design award, which he won no fewer than nine times.
